Datuk Ramli Ibrahim

Accomplished ballet, modern and Indian classical dancer, with over five decades of performance experience, Ramli Ibrahim is Chairman of Sutra Foundation and the artistic director of Sutra Dance Theatre, for which he has choreographed stunning works, bringing to the fore some of Malaysia’s brightest creative talents. Since his return to Malaysia more than forty years ago, he has been instrumental in transforming Malaysia’s dance scene, boldly charting new paths, and showcasing the rich tapestry of multicultural Malaysian Dance - be it contemporary, traditional or modern. Ramli Ibrahim studied bharatanatyam under Padma Shri Awardee, the late Adyar K Lakshman who was one of the foremost bharatanatyam gurus of his generation. He himself is recipient of numerous national and international awards and is honoured with the National Living Treasure Award from Malaysia.
